West Orange is a flourishing community with a global population of almost 50,000. Although not directly on the Midtown Direct train line, the township provides free jitney service to Orange Station and South Orange Station, bringing riders straight to New York's Penn Station. Commuters also can take advantage of bus service with the park and ride from Codey Arena as well as 3 local stops in West Orange to New York’s Port Authority. 

West Orange, with its rich history and cosmopolitan appeal, offers a diverse selection of housing options.  From million dollar mansions in Llewellyn Park (former home to inventor Thomas Edison) to colonials, split levels and capes, to condominium complexes, townhouses and newly constructed neighborhood enclaves, West Orange features an assorted housing stock for all types of budgets. According to the West Orange Board of Education, “The 7,000 plus student body speaks more than 48 languages in the home and provides a mix of cultures, socio-economic and religious groups that creates a harmonious microcosm of a global community contained within the borders of West Orange.” 

There are many excellent restaurants including The Highlawn located in Eagle Rock reservation with breathtaking NYC views, McCloone’s Boathouse which overlooks the reservoir by Turtle Back Zoo, Kim’s Sushi, Benji’s Taqueria, and Chit Chat Diner.

West Orange is also becoming a premiere destination for indoor and outdoor entertainment and recreational facilities. There’s a newly renovated JCC with a gym, pool, childcare, and many programs for people of all ages. South Mountain Arena, now Richard J. Codey Arena, has undergone renovations over the past decade and is now a state of the art ice skating facility. The Turtle Back Zoo, Educational Center, Safari mini-golf, and Paddle Boats on the reservoir have become popular attractions.  The reservoir is also a popular destination for joggers and dog walkers alike with a paved 1.7 mile lit path.
